Flames Game Day

The Flames visit the Dallas/Iowa Stars tonight (630PM MT, TSN), to try to get a split in their little two-game roadie. Iginla, Kobasew, & McCarty are still out for the Flames; the Stars will be missing most or all of Modano, Morrow, Zubov, Barnaby, Boucher, Halpern, & Ott. I don't want to get too excited, but if there was ever a time to improve on their 27th-ranked 73.7% Road PK, this is it (presumptive #1 PP blueliners: Stephane Robidas & Darryl Sydor; #2: Jaroslav Modry & Trevor Daley).

Second! Eric Francis runs down Daymond Langkow's All-Star credentials in the Sun today. Very inspired.

Speaking of the Calgary Sun, check out the screencap at left, and the bizarre sub-hed on Pierre Lebrun's article about the new Reebok unis. I read the piece four times to make sure: Joffrey Lupul is not mentioned, referenced, alluded to, etc. whatsoever. It would be funnier if it was the Edmonton Sun, but whatever.

Also, surely tonight's game will be worth watching just to catch Pierre McGuire's apology [MONSTER apology, shurely -ed.] to the Montreal Gazette's Jack Todd. I have very little use for Todd and his Poundian ethics (check out his take on Roger Clemens -- apparently he's gotten a "free ride" on the steroids scandal on account of his never being caught or credibly accused of doing anything), but since he has absolutely no motive for lying here, I'll choose to believe the he-said.

It says here that the Halpern & Boucher injuries Monday represent a tipping point, and that the Stars will no longer be able to play even mediocre hockey with a roster consisting of Eric Lindros, Mike Ribeiro, and the Finnish Olympic team's third line. Calgary 5 (Tanguay, Lombardi, Boyd, Amonte, Phaneuf), Dallas 0 (Kip-perrrr!). Go Flames.

Comments:

100 Billion to 0 for Dallas*.

Flames suck.

*Predicting a Stars victory makes me feel dirty, but then again, they are playing the Flames. I wish both teams could lose (perhaps Dion could show Lindros his best Scott Stevens impression).

Oooo, those Kinger hits really sting.

Seriously, what the hell is that, some Sun staffer fucking around, or what?

It's both funny and a genuine criticism. Joffrey is 7th on the team with 44 hits, and I can't remember a single significant one. It's kind of sad that although he only has 16 hits on the year, Hemsky lays a much harder check.

Hey Fenwick, guess what I did tonight?

Pints.

Dinner.

Pints.

Now a little drink at home.

I believe that I may actually go back to McCarthys for another pint. Or I may go to bed and sleep without interruption for ten hours.

Of course I know that all of this is going to come back and bite me in the ass when the boy returns and takes three weeks to readjust to EST but what the hell.

That article by Lebrun was also on Canoe.ca where they had some stuff about the Oilers at the bottom for their Oilers section I think. Clearly somebody at The Calgary Sun was just too lazy to make up their own subtitle.

Huselius has 20 goals.

I am without speech.

Is anyone watching the game on TSN?

If so, could someone tell me what the hell is wrong with Pierre "Giggles" McGuire? Is he high or something?

"And there wasn't even two line passes, baaaaaahahahahaha"

I think it's time for Fenwick to bust out a few pints.

Might make this Flames defeat a little easier to watch.

My fav. Pierre McGuire moment so far was when he was "showing" us how DAL was playing a 1-4 def. alignment -- while they were on the PK.

Obviously you must include the goaltender when describing any special teams system.

McGuire is such a putz.

It's amazing how much better I feel after a Flames loss. It's almost greater than an Oil victory.

Huzzah!!!

Kinger: Is the Heroin soundtrack to that Hemsky vid a Pinto reference?

If so, nice placement. If not, what the hell?

Kinger: Is the Heroin soundtrack to that Hemsky vid a Pinto reference?

It is a Pinto reference and thank you.

Woo woo!!! Another Calgary special at the end of the game too!?!? I love it. This whole hubris/hockey gods thing is working out great with the ENGs.

Ok, did anyone else catch the 3rd period exchange between MacKenzie and Maguire.

MacKenzie says -- "I heard Roman Hamrlik referring to Dion Phaneuf, as his boy."

"I said to him, careful now, he's been Pierre's boy" for some time now."

Where are the boys from CinO, or BDHS to capitalize on this more than obvious homo-erotic episode.

So he's BOTH Roman and Pierre's boy now?

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Double Dion", that's for sure.

Disturbing.

Nice work O:)

I have to give Pierre credit because mid-game he acknowledged all the people who say he gives too much credit to Dion and he pointed out why he likes him so much but he didn't go over the top.

Althought Gord did mention that Pierre loved Dion ever since the first time he saw him practice at the world jr's.

And another thing, you gotta love those road Flames.
